Library Painting Project 2026

We are so excited for our fresh space, but we also know the process may disrupt your routines. We will do our best to answer your questions and make sure you have what you need while we are closed. 🧡

Q & A

What if I have something due while you are closed?

No materials that you have checked out at DPL will be due back during our closure, including movies, board games, and maker kits.

Attraction passes, WiFi hotspots, and Roku devices will all be due back before we close.

What will happen to the holds I’m waiting for?

You will keep your place on the list but no holds will come in to DPL during that time. Your holds will be in limbo until we reopen. Unless…

What if I don’t want to wait to pick up my holds?

You may switch the pickup library for your holds to one of our neighbors. We can do that for you, or you can follow these step-by-step instructions.

When should I switch my pickup library?

We recommend that you change your pickup library on April 6th for any holds that 1) haven’t shipped yet* and 2) you are #9 in line or lower**.

*Anything shipped before that, you will still have time to pick up at DPL.

**Any books where your place in line is in the double digits most likely would not become available until after we reopen in May.

Can I call and talk to someone while you are closed?

You may contact a neighbor library for help but you will not be able to reach DPL staff during this time. We want to focus all of our attention on reopening the library as soon as possible.

Can I return materials to the outdoor drop box while you are closed?

No. You may drop materials off at neighbor libraries but not at DPL. We won’t have space to check items in and will be focusing all of our attention on reopening the library as soon as possible.

What will the library staff be doing during the closure?

DPL staff will still work regular hours, even though all of it will be behind the scenes. This painting project requires a tremendous amount of collection shifting and we are making the best of this opportunity by conducting a materials inventory as we go.

Am I able to drop off donation materials and Sentry receipts during this time?

During the closure, you may drop any donation materials in the outdoor box at the Friends Used Bookstore. There will also be a designated pocket on the side of the box for Sentry receipts.
