The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Vol. 1 Squirrel Power by Ryan North and Erica Henderson

Captain America, Thor, Iron-Man, Spiderman…Squirrel Girl? Yeah, no one else has heard of this Avenger either but she doesn’t let that get to her. Squirrel Girl (aka college freshman Doreen Green) uses her strength (proportional to that of a squirrel) and ability to communicate with her rodent counterparts to save the day. This upbeat superhero graphic novel is stuffed from tip to bushy tail with pitch-perfect comedy, including hilarious “secret” footnote commentary on each page. One of my favorite footnotes was the one that disclosed Doreen’s roommate, Nancy, writes fanfiction about “Cat Thor, Cat God of Cat Thunder.” In conclusion, Squirrel Girl is the best.
