The Paris Seamstress by Natasha Lester

Reviewed by Jayne S (Library Staff)

The novel begins in 1940 Paris with the German Army approaching. After Estella Bissette passes confidential maps from a dying friend to the mysterious Alex; her mother, Jeanne, forces her to flee to New York City.

Family secrets slowly emerge as the story goes back and forth from WWII Paris to present day New York City. The now elderly Estella has created a fashion design empire and hopes that her granddaughter, Fabienne, will take over the helm.

There is love, heartbreak, sacrifices and tragedy in the chronicles of Jeanne, Estella and Fabienne’s lives.

I enjoyed the two time frames in this book. All the characters were complex and well-written. I recommend this novel.
