Love Lies Beneath by Ellen Hopkins

Reviewed by Stephanie Ramirez (Library Staff)

Having read Hopkins’ harrowing teen novels before, I eagerly tore into her first book geared toward adults, Love Lies Beneath. Although the writing is, as usual, fantastic, I found myself unsatisfied with the ending. The book tells of wealthy, beautiful Tara Cannon, thrice-divorced and looking for love (either temporary or permanent) again. She meets gorgeous Dr. Cavin Lattimore after a ski accident lands her in his waiting room. However, is he as he seems? His teenage son Eli warns Tara of his father’s intentions but whom is she to believe? Although Hopkins lays out a foundation of intrigue and tension, readers will be left ultimately unsatisfied with the ending. Perhaps the sequel (due out in May 2018) will answer the lingering questions that remain.
