This is sure to be a treasure for Upper Elementary aged kids. It provides an excellent introduction to the genre of biographies. Even though Ms. Cleary was born in 1916 the story of her childhood struggles will strike a chord with today’s youngsters. She dreaded reading out loud and had a hard time relating to the books chosen for her to read. Some of her teachers were not nice but fortunately she had some excellent ones, notably her 2nd Grade and 7th Grade ones. The stories she wrote still provide many children with happy reads. And this biography will help readers to understand how unique Beverly Cleary was and how readers can relate to her experiences. I highly recommend it!!
