Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

This book will transport the reader into a whole different world. The characters live in a bubble where money is flaunted and seems to be limitless. The book is divided into three parts. In the first part the author describes the characters and their relationships to one another. It is uneventful. As such, I found it slow to read. Stay with it…..a plot does eventually surface and it provides plenty of twists and turns. Besides being obsessed with money, the characters are acutely aware of everyone else’s family lineage. They use this information to define themselves and to formulate opinions about others. In the end, the central theme of family lineage and wealthy define the path for the main characters of Rachel and Nick. At times I felt there were too many characters. But in a final reflection, the cast of characters provided the author with the ability to develop several plot lines besides the main one involving Rachel and Nick. If you like to be immersed in a high society soap opera, this book will provide you with oodles of Asian noodles!
