Baby Monkey, Private Eye by Brian Selznick and David Serlin

Reviewed by Jane Oliver-Purton (Library Staff)

Brought to us by the amazing Brian Selznick, author/illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Wonderstruck, and The Marvels, Baby Monkey, Private Eye is a new form of book for the very young (as well as the rest of us.) The format looks like a children’s fiction book, but with thicker pages and many fewer words. As you read the repeating phrases, your eye will soon discover interesting changes going on behind the scenes. This is a sweet story of a successful detective monkey, who though he has trouble getting into his pants before each investigation, successfully digs out the answers. A great first fiction volume for all.
