Fans of Agatha Christie’s classic, And Then There Were None, will devour Shari Lapena’s novel, An Unwanted Guest. The first few pages will snare you. The chapters are brief and alternate between the guests only long enough to expose a glimpse of what each thinks and feels which builds a sense of urgency in the reader to keep the pages turning. The body count rises while a horrific storm paints the guests in snow and ice too hazardous to venture into. Everyone has something to hide but only one is willing to do whatever it takes to keep their past concealed. Lapena’s novel contains intricately buried clues though there were too few for me, or I was reading it far too quickly to have anything more than a guess at the killer. Anyone who enjoys a mystery or is seeking a quick read will devour this title.
