Opening up a fascinating bit of counter-culture history, Jeffrey Toobin tackles one of the most bizarre and publicized items in recent memory: the kidnapping of Patty Hearst by a rebel faction group called the SLA. The granddaughter of infamous William Randolph Hearst, Patty (or Patricia, as she preferred) was born with a silver spoon in her mouth but also a rebellious streak a mile wide. So the question remains: was Patty an unwilling accomplice to bank robbery, theft, and perhaps even murder? Or did she embrace the revolutionary zeal that her co-conspirators so ardently preached? Toobin lays out a compelling case for the reader to decide.
