Internet Use Rules:
1. Acceptable Uses. The public Internet workstation at Delafield Public Library is a resource intended to provide users with access to knowledge, information and diversity of ideas. All users are expected to use this resource, which includes, but is not limited to, the Internet and the World Wide Web, in a responsible manner consistent with educational and informational purposes for which it is provided.
2. Unacceptable Uses. Users may not use the Internet workstation for any illegal or inappropriate
purposes. The following activities are considered inappropriate and are therefore prohibited:
a) Entering “chat rooms” to explore or communicate.
b) Disregarding the privacy of others; misrepresenting oneself as another user; attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords or data belonging to others; seeking unauthorized access to any computer system; or damaging or altering software or hardware components of any network or database.
c) Making any changes to the setup or configuration of any software or hardware on the public Internet workstation at Delafield Public Library.
d) Interfering with other users while they are utilizing the Internet workstations at Delafield Public Library.
e) Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted or licensed software or data.
f) Viewing, sending, receiving or displaying text or graphics which may be reasonably construed as obscene or harmful materials which lack serious artistic, literary, political, educational or scientific value.
3. Children Under the Age of 18. Children under the age of 18 need permission of a parent or guardian to
use the public Internet workstation. The Delafield Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. Please note that not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete, current, or appropriate information. All Internet resources accessible through the library are provided equally to all library users. Parents or guardians, not the library or its staff, are responsible for monitoring the Internet information selected, viewed and/or accessed by their children.
4. Misuse of the Public Internet Workstation. Misuse or abuse of this computer or Internet access will result in suspension or termination of Delafield Public Library Internet access privileges.
Internet Use: Procedures
- 1. Users must be registered borrowers with a library card. Children under the age of 18 are required to have an Internet access permission sheet signed by a parent or guardian.
- 2. Use of the Internet is limited to one half hour block. Reservations to use an Internet workstation may be made in person or by phone. Users may be limited to one sign-up per day, depending on patron demand or library staff’s need to use this resource.
- 3. Black and white pages printed from the Internet are 20¢ per page. Colored pages printed from the Internet are 50¢ per page. Library users are responsible for any consequences of copyright infringement.
- 4. To protect library equipment, downloading of files is not allowed at this time.
- 5. Library staff is available to assist you in your use of these resources, but may not be familiar with every application you might wish to use. Due to scheduling constraints, there may not be an Internet trained librarian on duty at all times. Because of the many different Internet applications available, we cannot provide complete technical support.
